“The Town of Hancock is pleased to have facilitated the location and energization of this critical EV transportation asset in the Town, bringing EV drivers off the Interstate to enjoy the beautiful views of the Potomac River at the Western Trail Lot and to patronize the businesses in our idyllic Town”, said Mayor Ralph Salvagno. “This installation not only promotes EV driving to the Western part of the State, but ensures a clean mode of transportation for local citizens and visitors alike to the Town.”

“The Maryland Energy Administration assisted in the placement of over 900 EV chargers throughout the state in 2019,” stated MEA Director, Mary Beth Tung. “Each new EV charger helps to address greenhouse gas emissions and propels us to reaching Governor Hogan’s bold goal for zero-emission vehicle adoption.”

The Hogan administration has twice led the effort to enact legislation promoting adoption of zero-emission vehicles and providing funding to support charging stations.

“This installation proudly marks the expansion along I-70, that EVI and MEA started by installing four DC Fast Chargers in Hagerstown, MD in 2018 and now extends to Hancock, MD-building out a critical node in the State’s EV transportation infrastructure”, according to Matthew D. Wade, CEO, EVI. Wade hopes that the “State will continue this expansion further out into Western Maryland following the I-70/I-68 highway system”.

Not only did EVI work with the Town of Hancock, but the critical stakeholders of MEA and the Department of Natural Resources, who provided an easement to the Town for these Stations to make this project a reality.
